Blackberry
Often found growing on wasteland or through hedgerows, wild blackberries will grow into a sprawling, very thorny, dense mass of stems, flowers and berries. Cultivated blackberries canes are still very vigorous but research has led to thornless varieties and semi-erect canes, aiding harvesting. Bees love the nectar, and in a good year will ensure a good crop of juicy, large black fruits. Each blackberry is made up from individual juicy fruits, each with a seed inside; all can be eaten. Black and glossy, care should be taken when handling ripe fruits as they crush quite easily.
Blackberries are very nutritious containing vitamin E, C, K, folate, magnesium, potassium, copper and manganese.
