Cherry
Much celebrated in Japan, the cherry tree can be grown pretty much anywhere with most commercial sweet cherries grown in Europe and United States, but cultivated historically for thousands of years. The cherry fruits follow the clusters of beautiful springtime cherry blossom, and are picked as close to maturity and full ripeness as possible as they do not ripen after picking. Cherries, with their smooth, glossy pink, red to black skins (depending on variety) should be firm, plump, sweet and juicy, and are a good source of vitamin C and anthocyanins.
