Dragon Fruit
The dragon fruit or pitahaya, is the fruit of a number of cactus species. With rubbery, rough outer skin, they can grow as vines or as tree-like cacti and are found in Central and South America and south east Asia. Usually found as red or yellow skinned varieties, the soft sweet pulp inside is white or red depending on variety, and the skin is inedible. The easiest way to eat a dragon fruit is to cut it in half and scoop out the flesh with a spoon, which contains tiny crunchy edible seeds similar to a kiwifruit. Rich in vitamin C and minerals like phosphorus and calcium, as well as antioxidants, this strange-looking fruit is certainly worth a taste.
