Kohl Rabi

Kohl Rabi is a brassica like cabbage and broccoli. It doesn't look much like a cabbage however! It looks more like, and is treated like, a turnip. The swollen stem sits at ground level, and is usually white to pale green, although there are also red varieties. Whatever the colour on the outside, the edible flesh inside is always white or cream. It is almost spherical in shape, which leaf stalks stick proud of it. With the exception of the Gigante cultivar, they are usually about an apple in size. Larger ones tend to be more woody. It can be eaten cooked or raw; very small ones do not need peeling. The green leaves can also be eaten if desired, it is after all, of the cabbage family.
